For the last month or so, people have been randomly messaging me on ICQ. Most of those whose profiles I've read have not been in English. Most recently, somebody just sent me a German IM chain letter, threatening me death at the hands of a dead 7 year old girl if I didn't forward it to 15 of my friends in 10 minutes, and love if I did. I have no idea WHY people have started messaging me. A search for my ICQ number turns up nothing.

The rate that people have added me to their contact list has dropped this year, but I'm still puzzled as to why they added me in the first place.

it's funny that you write about icq because just the other day a friend and i were talking about it, i didnt know that it was still around! it's funny to us that we say 'back in the icq days' haha

I've got accounts on most of the major networks, and use a multi-protocol client. These days I favour AIM, mostly because I can log in at multiple locations without disconnecting the others.

ICQ has some very nice features though. I find the 'send message to offline person' one particularly useful.

yes that is nice, I remember how nice it was to log into icq and have all these messages waiting for me. but I like aim now, mainly because I don't really chat to alot of people to begin with and it's just pretty simple and that's all I need.

Welcome to the wonderful, wonderful world of instant messenger
spam. Try entering your gender as female and watch as the amount
trebles instantly.

I'm just confused as to why it would start so suddenly, when before then there was almost nothing, and then die down again.
